Emetophobia
Fear of Being Sick
Emetaphobiais sometimes referred to as Vomitaphobia and sometimes spelled Emataphobia.
Occasionally mis referred to as Phagophobia, which, although similar is actually a fear of swallowing or eating.
It's surprisingly common,(more common in women than men) but like many phobias isn't something many people talk about or admit to.
The distinction between and fear and phobia is simply down to severity, if the fear starts become something that starts to limit your behaviour in any way, it's considered a phobia.
With Emetophobia it can reach such a stage that suffers are afraid to eat in public, afraid to drink alcohol, and in severe cases afraid of eating altogether, or avoid watching television or reading books (because they fear they bring about a headache which may trigger them to be sick).
Some sufferers restrict their travel plans in case of motion sickness.
For many, the fear of being sick far out ways the even itself and for mothers, it can make child rearing very difficult, because seeing someone else (their child) being sick can be so traumatic.
Being able to be sick is a natural process and useful process - it allows your body to expel otherwise harmful or unwanted items. It's one of the ways your body aim to protect you from things it doesn't need or want.

Treatment for Emetophobia is similar to all phobia work.
It's often very simple and quick and there are a variety of techniques that be used.
NLP Fast Phobia Cure:
This is perhaps one of the fastest methods available, using simple techniques it can remove, or significantly reduce most phobias in no more than about 30 minutes.
Pioneered by Richard Bandler, one of the creators of NLP it is successfully used the world over to create easy, and rapid change.
It works superbly for the majority of people and the majority of phobias (regardless of severity), even in the small percentage of people where it it's effectiveness isn't total, it can have a significant reduction in any phobia.

Hypno-desensitisation
Long word but a tried and tested method for phobia removal. Not as fast as the NLP or EFT method, but often used with patients who are looking for a more gradual change or where a rapid removal of their phobia isn't necessary or wanted.
It uses hypnosis to illicit a calm, relaxed state whereby the phobia is "explored" in the persons mind. When you are relaxed and calm it's impossible to become anxious or frightened, (the two states fear and relaxation can't exist together. )
This process also works with your body's physiology, in traditional settings, the phobia is triggered, by bringing out the object that creates the phobia or eliciting the phobia response in some other way. Naturally stress levels rise, (to create the fear response), but the body cannot sustain levels of fear for long, especially when the phobia trigger doesn't actually cause any real harm. After a time the stress level diminish and the fear level drops.
Desensitization is a technique that is used the world over in psychotherapy. Hypno-desensitization merely uses hypnosis to enhance and quicken the process and allows for the phobia trigger to not be present (for example, if you have a fear of spiders, you don't need to have a spider in the therapy room)
EMDR: Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
A very effective technique, originally used with trauma and extreme memories, but has since become one of the de-facto standard treatments for phobias. It doesn't use Hypnosis or Psychotherapy and instead uses eye movements to remove the emotional impact to the traumatic memory or phobic response. EMDR has been used extensively by aid workers in some of the worlds most troubled areas to help people suffering from post traumatic stress or have witnessed atrocities.
With phobia work, EMDR is equally effective, and is of most use where the phobia resulting from a traumatic event or series of events.
Of course, the best to eliminate any phobia is to more than one technique. I find that the EFT and NLP fast phobia cure, work amazingly well together and when coupled with EMDR and traditional Hypnosis the results are fantastic.
No one needs to live their life with a phobia these days, they're easy, quick and simple to remove forever.
